#2016MakeNine summer sewing plans

So, at the moment I’m a bit strapped for cash, what with all the recent expense of moving house and the fact it’s been a while since I’ve had a new book out. However, at the same time I’m facing a need for new summer clothing, including things I can’t make myself like sandals. I’ve given it some thought and have decided the best way to proceed is to curb my impulses to buy ALL the fabric and ALL the patterns, and shop my stash instead, thus saving my small amount of cash for some splendid footwear. Or not-so-splendid footwear, as the case may be. We’ll just have to see what I can find in my budget…

Anyway, here’s my plans for nine summery things I can make from my stash:

Me Made May (23) (Copy)Plantain tee

I’ve already made a three-quarter sleeve version, and I want more! There’s plenty of jersey in the stash. I’m thinking a short sleeved one to begin with, and possibly adapt it into a tank.

A light and floaty summer top is definitely a gap in my wardrobe. I’ve had this New Look pattern (now OOP) for years and made up a couple of long sleeve versions. They were both huge, however, and ended up getting donated to charity. This time I want to use up some of my stashed chiffon and go for the sleeveless option, choosing the size carefully. I have enough chiffon for two, in different prints 🙂

MojaveMojave dress

I’ve had my eye on this Seamwork pattern for ages, and can use some of my credits to download it. Whether I have enough fabric in the stash is debatable, but with some careful pattern placement I might squeak it out of some blue batik. Or then again, I could splurge on some lovely linen. Mmm, linen…

I don’t actually own the pattern I’ve linked, but I’m thinking it shouldn’t be too difficult to draft a knit maxi dress in this simple style. I have enough black cotton lycra to make it, too.

Kimono

I definitely need a beach cover-up, and have some cotton lawn that might work for this simple design, although perhaps I’d be better off buying some viscose. Hmm… that kind of defeats the object, doesn’t it?!

Rebel lace cardieRebel Lace Cardi

I adore this cardie, even if it’s not the most practical! I’ve had this Craftsy class since it first released, and have had the yarn (in navy) for at least a year. I recently worked the first few rows, so who knows, at this rate I might have it ready for summer 2017 😛

manilaManila leggings

I only have one pair of cropped leggings, so was thinking it would be good to make another pair. I have charcoal knit in the stash, and I’m sure it can’t be too tricky to adapt this Seamwork pattern to a cropped length.

I have the pattern printed from the Alabama Studio Style book, and I’m determined to make it!  I have a couple of jerseys that would be suitable. The question is, do I go for the dark brown or the lavender? And no, I’m not going to hand sew and embellish it in traditional AC style. I’ll never get it finished if I go that route!

Safari skirtSafari skirt

This pattern is printed and ready to go. I bought it ages ago as it’s the style of skirt I live in for most of the year. Having bought this one I then discovered the Grainline Moss skirt which is possibly even more perfect. However, this is the one I have so this is the one I’m going to make. I have some stretch denim with little stars, and some red twill. Who knows which I’ll make up first?

Right, that little lot should keep me out of trouble for a few months, and it will please Andy to see me decluttering by using up some of my fabric stash (he just doesn’t understand my hoarding tendencies!). I’ll go for the Safari skirt and the Plantain tee first, and then work from there. Right after I make a couple more school dresses for Daisy…

Anyone else shopping their stash? Or are you just letting it accumulate?!
